I can't imagine how much it cost Frank to book Don for that sketch--likely most of his budget for a whole season of his show. But however it came together, I'm so glad it did... even moreso now. |

I am just about able to wrap my head around that Don is gone my ballcap I got from John Florian from voiceoverxtra.com at Voice 2008 has a black ribbon on it.People as me about it and I tell them its for a friend Don LaFontaine and some know who he is and others I just say In A World and oh that guy sorry for your loss. I think of Don like an Uncle I never met but heard a lot about, and heard a lot of.
I agree with other who say Don would say be your self, and I think he might say maybe you will be the next voice movies but be true to your voice. I found this clip on you tube enjoy if you can reflect if you can't but grieve your way but also celebrate all that was Don.

This is almost an insult to Don. I've watched three trailers on this page so far (The Godfather II, Shrek and Minority Report) and only the Godfather is Don's voice.
Edit: Just watched two more that aren't Don. One of them is a gentleman with an English accent.

Don brought something very special to the world of VO. He took the anonimity OUT, and made VO a household word.
...and to THAT, we all owe a debt of gratitude.
RIP Don Lafontaine. The "world" will miss you. |

That's actually Don on Dodgeball.
Shrek sounds like George Carlin doing Harlan Rector doing Hal Douglas.
Minority Report sounds like Scott Rummell.
And Striking Distance sounds like Hal Douglas.
But I don't take people not knowing as an insult to Don... it's actually a compliment that he's "credited" with ALOT more work than the massive amount that he'd already done. It proves that HE was THE movie trailer guy... or, more importantly, that he was "first" if you will.

I see that my work is done here...
BTW: for what it's worth, and in keeping with the spirit of the thread, someone in the Gear section recently posted about how they had shown this place to "the Don" (I just like referring to him as such). Apparently he got a kick out of the place and was more than a little surprised by the number of people who used his likeness for their avatars (in some cases, disturbed might be the appropriate term  ).
While JC stated is very true. "The Don" did take VO and give it a face, but true to form he was just as surprised to see that his actions and persona were so incredibly respected. I think that's the amusing thing about people who are truly great, they never realize it, or (in most cases) their effect upon society/community.

One of the great things I remember about Don at Voice 07 (and there's a lot of great memories of meeting him and what he said that night)...You could tell, he was as excited to be there as we were.

He was about as unpretentious as a superstar could possibly be.
And so generous with his time.
One of those remarkable guys who enjoys laughing, even when it wasn't he who said something funny.
