Thanks Charlie, Thanks Kevin,
You've kinda re-affirmed what I was thinking... I'd be better off just using Audition for a session if I had to use Audio TX. It wouldn't make much sense to go through all of the extra wiring steps, if I could simply plug my pre-amp directly into my sound card and run it through Audition, as opposed to increasing the potential for cable problems by running from Mbox Output > Sound Card Input > Sound Card Ouptut - Mbox...
Thanks for the info...

Now you have the idea, - use Audition to record the session, move the files into ProFools, and edit as you like... forget the MBox with AudioTx...
ASIO 2 with PT or MBox is still a questionable item... DigiDesign is working on getting a corner on the market... if you buy their products - - you use THEIR products (hardware or software). Where is the anti-trust lawsuit in the audio industry???
Focus on making things easy for yourself... or as has been suggested - Keep It Simple Silly... it works.

What do I use? It depends upon the project.
There are tools used for sampling, there are tools for MIDI, there are tools for DAW's, etc.
I like Sony Vegas for multi-tracking, music production, video editing and post-production, and sweetening and Surround Sound (5:1, 7:1 and 9:2); and Adobe Audition for Voice Overs.
I also use Sony Acid, Reason, Cubase, and several other great programs including Nuendo, Sound Forge, etc.
Please understand that I have four audio suites in one location with complete High Definition Video Production suites also; and three more audio/video "studios" in another State. I also have my "home" studio (which is where I spend most of my time lately).
The picture posted on an earlier thread is of my "home" studio.

Adobe Audition. That's the new Cool Edit right? I love my Cool Edit 2 but was thinking of going to something newer. How do you like it? |

Now there is a really subjective question... CEP2 has some things I often go back and use... I have both on my PC. Audition is a workhorse, which with some minor exceptions, is exactly like CEP2.
This is not meant to be an endorsement of Audition, just a users viewpoint.
I do not use the Surround features in Audition, as they are cumbersome in my opinion, but for VO one does not need them. I also do not use the multi-track capability much, I like the Sony Vegas interface for it's usability. When doing mix-downs for a fully produced project with VO I would use Vegas.
For VO recording, Audition/CEP2 is so darn easy to use, edit, process, change format (.wav, .aiff, .mp3, etc...), change bit rates, change Sample Rates if necessary, etc. - that I have no need to look elsewhere for VO work/projects.
But, remember, this is MY opinion. Others may vary. Some fine folks find they like ProFools, some like Sound Forge, or what-have-you...
Besides, it's really about-time Adobe got into the business - and changed the way some things are done or at least updated Audition and made it capable of doing video editing - will they soon - doubt it. I believe they (Audition) are working on the concept that if you build it they will buy... and they have not built it, they just bought it... so they are not looking for a way to integrate Audition with Premiere into one cohesieve software solution - and I would not use Premiere to edit any video project of mine.
Will PT offer a real video editing solution with quality easy to use audio interfaces... maybe someday, but it will be costly. So for what I do in my work-a-day life, I would use Sony Vegas for Video Editing, plus Audio mixing... If I felt the Audio Editing features in Vegas were as easy to use as they are in Audition/CEP2, I would be using them... but they are not. So I use Audition/CEP2 for most VO only projects - then import into Vegas.
Now that I have beat around the bush... Yes, I like Audition. I would also like to someday see a solution which has the editing features of Audition, the mixing and video editing features of Vegas, the compatability features of ProFools, and the price of GoldWave... boy am I a dreamer????

Well, seeing how Avid owns DigiDesign I wouldn't hold my breath on that being cheap, the last system I saw "auctioned" off didn't meet the reserve at $38K, the owners (all four of them) are still paying it off as they work out of their basements.
At any rate, two of the features I like in Adobe Audition is 1) the ability to highlight/select a region of audio and typing Shift-F8 for track indexing so you can 2) burn those selected regions to CD. Cool edit always had a great mix engine ... and it's much quicker than the PT in that regard..... _________________ Genus |
