I have been perfectly happy, in my ignorance, with the capabilities of AA 1.5, but it can be flaky during editing. It especially has the tendency, after I've been editing the file for a while and get to the end where I delete the end-of-recording-session noises, of inserting odd spikes and then shutting down. This rarely results in lost work since it can restart previous sessions where it left off, but it's disconcerting, a waste of time, and generally WTF.

Wondered if AA 3 or whatever they're up to is worth the upgrade.

I've got PT but still use 1.5 to edit longer narration and I never have that problem. How much RAM are you running on your machine?

i have the same problem. and i don't get it either. i have 2 gigs of RAM, plenty of HD space, an Intel Dual core... this is a brand new machine. i'm sure someone here has an idea as to why this happens.

3.0 will do that to me but 1.5 is stable on my machine. So it would seem that if you are wanting to upgrade to stay away from the lock ups...no not worth it. I've had several people tell me that too.

I've got both and didn't have this problem with either, sorry.

AA 3.0 is quite nice however and the improvement for HW support was worth the price of admission.

I freaking love using it with my Lynx AD/DAs

Slow down.

Mary, your problem is one of speed. Sometimes when editing using AA 1.5 the fingers are faster than the processor. Speedy edits cause glitches and even crashes, more so when you have lots of "undo's" in the system. The "glitch" at the end of a file is the result of keyboard interface problem within AA 1.5. Simply record silence for a few seconds after the the end of the file and "stop", then delete the extra silence and this should take care of the problem.

I have not been a fan of 2.0 or 3.0 due to system incompatibilities and GUI changes. I (personally) have found the new interface(s) to be tedious and not very well thought out - unless you are doing MIDI. Many crashes, lock-ups, and resource hogging are also a problem with 2.0 and 3.0.

That said, there are some "pluses"; as in direct monitoring of a track in AA 2.0 and 3.0.

Take your time with edit points and cursor movement and you should have no problems with AA 1.5.

i have 1.5 & 3 ... used to have 2 - but found it to be completely useless.

i run 1.5 on my laptop & 3 on my desktop and have had zero problems with either of them.

3, however, has trouble running on my laptop ... just not fast enough.

I just got AA3 and I really love it, but I could have been perfectly happy with the 2.0 I demoed also. The direct monitoring is worth the price of admission, especially for remotely-directed sessions.

My Cubase was total bloatware. I had to shut everything off on my computer and it was still wicked unspiffy with popz und clikz. I can do high-res hour long takes in AA3 with wireless and other programs running with no problems...even on my laptop!

It takes me about twice as long to edit a piece as it's "supposed" to. I'm either slow, or do too much editing. And although I've heard that doing too many edits per unit time can do this - it sounds like WTF to me. I would have thought by 3.0 they would fix this. I've got plenty of RAM and disk space.

I guess I'm stuck with it.

What is direct monitoring?

Direct Monitoring is where you are able to record to the time line and hear the actual audio as it is being recorded.

Direct Monitoring is used by many VST based programs such as Source Connect and some effects to be able to hear the actual real-time incoming audio.

MCM check to see if you have any conflicts with your hardware.

I moved my AA 2.0 from my AMD 2600+ processor system with 2 Gig or RAM to a Mac Mini 1.83 dual booting with XP and only 1 Gig of RAM. Amazing how much BETTER it runs on this system. I can make much more detailed edits. The size of the segments are much smaller allowing such detail.

I had, at times, come across some issues with big files. I've learned to do a "Save All" part way through the process and that helped eliminate those issues. With the audio book work I've been doing lately, this process has been flawless.
