I'm going to throw a wet blanket on this party and tell you to make sure that if you're using any library effects, to check the license agreement. You may not be able to distribute it in this fashion.

Todd,
That was also my impression. And in which case, I also thank you, Eddie. _________________ Be well,

Correct, I make custom music and efx with my keyboards and guitar. Some sound efx are from libraries I bought so rights are no issue. |

That's the part I'm wondering about. Might want to check if those can be distributed at will. I know, for example, that the Digital Juice sounds can be distributed royalty-free for projects that I'm creating. But I can't give the sounds to other people who are creating things.
Sorry, not trying to be a jerk. I'd just hate to see anyone get in trouble or cause DB to get in any trouble. _________________ Jeff

Mr. Kafer is right... when you buy an SFX library you do not then own the sounds, you're merely purchasing a license to use them... every SFX library I've come across has a licensing agreement (usually included in the CD packaging and available on the company's website) that licenses your synchronized usage of the audio in your various productions, but NOT the redistribution of any raw audio from the library. So if you want to add the SFX and do the production yourself on someone's piece that's one thing, but sharing the SFX for someone else to produce themselves is not allowed. Not to be flippant, but unless your SFX library explicitly says "go ahead and give our stuff away to your friends", I'd be pretty reluctant to do so. _________________ Chris Rice - Noisemaker

i know that both jeff and chris are correct ... but if eddie (or any of us) combine sfx and music in any combination ... a lion, a tiger and a toucan, for example, to make "jungle sounds" is that not a "production"? _________________ "i know philip banks": todd ellis

A point well made I believe. If the EFX are re-manufactured into something new and then sold or transferred to someone else then there should be no problem. They just don't want you re-selling or giving away the same raw product they sell.

First off, thank you, Eddie, for offering your time, skill and resources. It's wonderfully generous!
Regarding rights issues, this thread sent me to the EULA for my own Digital Juice SFX Library.
I already knew that I couldn't distribute the SFX as isolated SFX, but I learned a few things I wasn't aware of. I suspect the EULA will vary with manufacturer and is worth checking those rare times a use other than the usual mix within a VO project comes up.
Thanks, Jeff, for pointing it out. _________________ --Michael
