Please excuse me if this has been already covered, but Search function didn't seem to work tonight.
Trying to find simplest, and lightest-weight method to let client hear takes from session during cell call-- while recording is being done directly to laptop with MicPort Pro--no mixer.
Monitoring session wih earbud in one ear, cell phone headset in other ear; client hears the read through headset, but need a way for them to hear playbacks.
Tried just plugging a cable from MicPro headset output into cell phone headset input. When it didn't overmodulate the file, no matter what volume I played back at, it disconnected the call. No clients were harmed or lost during this process, strictly test calls .
I'd sure appreciate hearing the best solution anyone may have.
Thanks |

Bill,
The problem is with the cell phone and how it reads the input. Some cell phones have built-in processes which accept commands from the headset due to a voltage increase or decrease, which is what modulated audio is, to some extent. Without the use of "mixer" this may be a feat in futility as the M is not designed for such a purpose.
Good luck, keep playing, and keep us updated if you find a solution.
Toodles

ooh, I sense some great, and frustrating, play time here. I'm with Frank in that a mixer is a must but perhaps you'll figure out something. I'm eager to hear more when you have more to share. _________________ 006 member of the Sisterhood of the Traveling Mic. Bonded by sound.

Ballenberg,
You might want to consider this one... http://www.jkaudio.com/daptor2.htm
I am not sure if it will work in your situation but it is worth a look. _________________ Does life start at 40? |

I was going to suggest a phone patch, too, because I've had great success in playback through the patch. Just going from the audio card to the patch to the phone. I've not used it on a cell phone but I've used it to a cell. I use the THAT-2, though. This one in the link seem perfect for wireless. _________________ 006 member of the Sisterhood of the Traveling Mic. Bonded by sound.

You could try the way I used to do it in the studio when the Gentner went down. It will require you to use a pair of headphones, but the client never knew we weren't using a "real" phone patch.

Hey, we do what we must to get the job done. It's a bonus when it actually works well. As I recall, the only downside (other than appearance) is that you can't really hear the client's comments while you're playing back. |

You can if you can listen on another handset to the line on a conference call...(see, we do what it takes...lol) _________________ Does life start at 40? |

Thanks for all input--- and I'm thinking Don has the right idea.
Called both Centrance and JK Audio, neither had a perfect solution but the Centrance tech essentially said what Don said, but with a tiny tweak.
Since the point of the travel kit is to be as compact as possible while still maintaining quality, I leave the big headphones at home and use earbuds. Centrance suggested a tiny speaker, plugged into the headphone output and held close to the cell phone for playback. Duh. But it works. The audio quality is what you'd expect, but it's being sent by cell phone, so how good is it at best? It lets client hear the read, not the audio quality, and that's all it needs to do, I think. And if you use the speakerphone feature on the cell, you can hear the client talking.
20 bucks, Radio Shack. Weighs about two ounces. |

Brilliant solution! Jonathan at CEntrance and the others have been very helpful at troubleshooting and providing support. Great company...
I sold out of my first order of MicPorts, about to order some more! _________________ If it sounds good, it is good.

Has anyone tried an in-line telephone handset recording control be implemented as a phone patch? It's a small and cheap (under $20) device.
It has a feature for audio playback into your phone line. The unit goes between the handset and the receiver and has an audio in/out switch connected to a mono 1/8" plug for insert into a headphone/earpiece jack.
From what I've read, users need to use a ground loop isolator, otherwise there's an awful hum from your computer's AC (unless you run off a battery with a laptop). _________________ Carl Welden
