With my current set up, Macbook Pro with Leopard OS, At 4043 mic, Mbox2 pro, what recording and editing software would work with this set up? I don't want to invest in another pre-amp if the Mbox would work for that as I am saving for a pretty new mic. But I'm not feeling the love for PT at the moment and wonder if there is a simpler option. Ideas please!

Hey Pam,

Unless you're doing multi-input recordings (for instance recording several instruments live) there's really no need for the Mbox2PRO if you're doin' VO only... an Mbox2 (or mini) would do just fine. So you could trade your Mbox2PRO in with your mic to purchase the new mic you desire. You could also lose PT all together, but that's up to you. I really like using PT.

Too bad Mastress Tierney is stuck in the Mac Galaxy. If you came further into the Dark Side you could use Sound Forge on a PC. But Sony doesn't sully it's software with Mac. Ninja

Maybe try http://www.apple.com/finalcutexpress/#audio
Final Cut Express. You could then do video too..... Not too pricey either.

Shop around for a deal:

www.bhphoto.com has it for $155 and free shipping. Money Mouth

Pam, I guess one of the questions is how much "complex" editing do you need to do? If you're just doing simple record / edit / cleanup stuff, there's probably software that'll work well for you.

I know some people have mentioned using GarageBand although I have no personl experience with it, so I dunno what it doesn't do / how it would work for you.

Eddie, I love it when you call me Mistress Tierney! It makes me seem so naughty.

Lou, I used Garageband extensively when I got started and loved the ease of the program. And it can be used with the Mbox as well so that set up wouldn't have to change. My thought was it was too pedestrian to use for "real" work and I needed a super-duper really sooped up stupid program to do real work. I do some simple producing, nothing fancy, so I do need some bells and whistles. I'll look into Logic.

Any other ideas?

Yes Ma'am I can tell by the smile on your face in your picture!

Did you get a set of discs with your Mbox? There may be a free Ableton program there.
