|
|
Hi guys! I've got a little question. I looked via search and couldn't really find anything -- unless I missed it.
I've got sony sound forge audio studio 8.
I got a request to produce a file at, at least 256Kbps.
I couldn't figure out how to do it. The s.f. audio studio default is set at 128 kbps. So, when I changed the mono file to stereo, the recording became 256 kbps. I don't know if that was the correct way to do things though.
After I'd sent the file off, I learned from going through the vo-bb back posts, that you can select kbps, when you save the file. so I went back and experimented.
The options were default (128)
64
96
128
Low, Medium and High VBR stereo audio
I experimented using a mono file, with Medium and High and it came to 160 kbps for both settings. The only difference was that the med. was 20.7 kb; and the high was 24.6kb.
I got another request a while ago, to do something at 192 kbps mono mp3.
How to you do that? ?????I saw neither a setting for 192 nor 256.
Any advice you can offer is really gratefully appreciated. Thanks a bunch!

The newer versions of ProTools offer 256kbps as an option for mono files, but SoundForge doesn't go above 128kbps for mono (unless they added that feature to SF9)... a 128kbps mono file is sonically equivalent to a 320kbps stereo file, which is as good as it gets for mp3. Your other option is to go with a loss-less format like wav. _________________ Chris Rice - Noisemaker

But in SoundForge: If you just take a 128K mono .mp3 nad change the attribute to "stereo - both channels" without changing anything else that makes a 256K stereo .mp3 file....not a TRUE stereo file, but a 256K "stereo" .mp3 file nonetheless.

Thanks Bob, that's another reason I can pass on upgrading to 9 for now. _________________ Chris Rice - Noisemaker

Google up "Razor Lame" and download it.
It offers a stand alone converter that will give you a long list of settings to choose from. Many of the offerings are of no value to most of us, but some of us get involved in some highly specialize projects and it is nice to have these tools available. |

Thanks so much for your advice gang!
So, about the chap who wanted 192 kbps mono mp3.
If I take the 96 setting and set it to stereo, I WILL get 192 kbps. But that won't be what he wants would it, since he requested 192 kbps mono. (Lucky for me, he did say that a WAV would do as an alternate...but just wondering in the event that there is no alternate choice.)
Any suggestions for what to do? Is this 192kbps a common setting that is requested a lot?
Thanks all!
BTW I did look up that razor lame thing, but i'm still a little puzzled by it and thus not sure about it. _________________ Intuit and do it!

Hey Stef!
Sometimes clients don't really know what they want.
A 192K .mp3 file is a stereo file....you may want to ask him (nicely!) and make sure....I've had to educate many a client on file formats!

Ohhhhhh thanks so much Liz! You're a star. Now I can feel more confident when asked to produce a file of the varying kbps. Yipeee! _________________ Intuit and do it!

Please don't tell me that this client is intending to downconvert it for an e-learning project. _________________ Skype: globalvoiceover
