Hey Gang— I am using MS Office 2007 on the Windows side of a Mac Laptop, and I need to print some stuff.
I can tell that my printer (available via my Airport network) is being recognized, but I canNOT get the documents to print!

I have the drivers, etc.
Do I have to capitulate and carry the laptop over tothe printer and plug it in?

Not that it's that big a deal, I just like to know how things are SUPPOSED to work.

Yes—All the Macs in the house (3) can print on the printer via wifi.

Deirdre,

I don't know if this will be helpful or not, but my wife's computer is the only one at home that connects to our in-house network via WiFi. Sometimes we have to reboot her computer to get it to print. (All are Win machines, except for one Linux workstation.)

Is the printer itself on the network or is it attached to a 'puter on the network?

It's attached to the USB port of her Airport, so it's basically a matter of connecting it as a TCP/IP printer in XP. I sent some 'structions, so hopefully that'll help.

Love the avatar, btw.

I gave up and took the laptop running Windows over to the printer, and plugged the USB cable from the printer directly into the computer.

IT STILL WOULD NOT PRINT.

I ran the trouble shooter thingie and even tried printing from the command console.

I can see the printer in the control panel, I can see that it has a port assigned. WTF?!

Are you running Parallels?

If so, here are some steps to get your printer set up on your "Virtual Machine" (from Parallels help).

To setup a USB printer:

Open the virtual machine configuration in the Configuration Editor, and make sure that the configuration includes a USB controller; if necessary, add it. See Adding a USB Controller.
Open the USB Options tab, and make sure that the Enabled option is selected. Select the Autoconnect at startup if you want the printer to be automatically captured by the virtual machine. Click OK to close Configuration Editor.
Start the guest operating system.
Plug in the USB printer as a USB device. See the Connecting USB Devices topic.
Install the native driver for the printer in the guest OS.

I've done all this, and still need to unplug/plug the printer to get my Windows side to recognize it.

Have you googled it and tried to find an answer that way?

If you have AppleCare, you can call them and they can help you. Sometimes they'll even help you if your AppleCare is expired.

If calling apple doesn't work, try calling the manufacturer of your printer. They usually know some tricks to get it to work. Just don't go reinstalling your operating system or anything. (They sometimes suggest that).

Good luck!

Here's what I finally did.

I booted up in Windows with the printer plugged into the USB port, but turned off.
Once everything was running and open, I turned the printer on, and chose that ad the default in the control panel.

W00tage— it worked!

Dunno if I'll ever be able to make it print from the network, but life's too short to wrestle with it, and carrying the laptop into my office is not that much of a hardship.

Really.
