You don't learn that after 5 years at a VO masterclass, you learn that before you go within 3000 miles of a mic. What you do then is discover what your talents bring to the telling of the story, even the most mundane story ...

I love Magic Roundabout. I enjoyed it as a kid, and then my mates and I enjoyed it for all the wrong (or right?) reasons at University. Is it true that the original episodes were written en Francais, and that the BBC narrator made up his own script loosely based on the animation? If so, that's even better storytelling. But I digress...
Something I do with my kid that helps me as a storyteller is to read them picturebooks without words, and try to come up with a new story each time (or a variation on a theme).
It's all storytelling, even if it's a biotech e-learning piece. _________________ Skype: globalvoiceover

Eric Thompson the narrator and writer did just invent stories based on what he saw in the animation. Eric's daughter is Emma Thompson.
Here's another great example of making the mundane appear Interesting |

Always worth the reminder, Mr. Banks! And thank you for the example; it was new to me.
I always remain in awe of Boris Karloff narrating "How The Grinch Stole Christmas" and Edward Everett Horton's "Fractured Fairytales."
Without storytelling, it seems to become words strung by ego. _________________ --Michael

Both were brilliant. I like bill bailey. and i loved watching the cow bang on the drum. ha, ha, i love animation.
I think Richard Pryor was another great story teller who could just go off on any subject. And his face was so expressive as well. _________________ Intuit and do it!

I had never seen the Magic Roundabout!
Quite wild and jolly, especially when you realize he's making it up. _________________ DBCooperVO.com

The Magic Roundabout brings back memories. I used to watch it with my four year old daughter when we lived in London. And Bill Bailey is always wild and wonderful to watch. |

This would seem an appropriate place to bring up the name Jean Shepherd.

Lee,
You're quite right. He was a great story-teller. _________________ Be well,
