Any of you using Skype? A client asked me to get it yesterday so I've set it up - I don't have a phone for it yet but I guess you can use it for IM-ing too. Seems to be yet another way to spend time "communicating" rather than working.

You can read it about it & download it at http://www.skype.com

If anybody wants to try it with me my Skype name is MCMVoices.

You may also use a simple headset (available on eBay for "cheap" - around $10.00 total) which is just fine... this is a SOFTPHONE - for the most part - meaning it's software which is used to connect via VOIP using propietary codecs...

"Hardphones" - a telephone look-a-like - using USB to connect to your PC are also available for inexpensive pricing.

Several other VOIP related products which are IM related are also avaialbe for use with Yahoo Messenger, Free World Dialup, AOL's AIM, MSN Messenger, etc. These use a non-propietary codec and are able to converse with each other - where Skype is just "Skype-to-Skype" or, if you purchase additional add-ins, Skype to POTS (PSTN - the real world phone system).

Ok, I'm Skyped up and ready to go.

Contact me via skype, as... voicemeister

Yes, a little pretentious, I know...

I turned skype on and set my icon to open contact from anyone and a young kid called me from Rome. He wanted to practice his American English. He had video, so I could see him. I will set up some video later today maybe. I have a cam, just can't remember how it will hook up to my newer computer.

BTW, I just used my vo mic & headphones for the skype session.
