Once again I find myself sitting in a juror's lounge with several hundred other civic minded folks in El Cajon, California. We are here performing our civic duty warming the chairs. I've been here two and a half hours. It will be at least another hour before they will know if they may need us. The wheels of justice turn slowly. Why can't they give us a pager like the food joints do when there is a long wait? At least I have by Blackberry. I am like the Pres, they will need to pry it from my cold stiff hands. I think it is protected by one of those amendments in the Bill of Rights. I am not bored.

Yeah, jury duty is often just a chance to get paid (poorly) to read a good book, along with dozens of other people you wouldn't normally associate with. And these are your "peers".

God bless America.

You can always say you completely disagree with the death penalty.
That'll get you thrown out some jury pools.

Or you could say that you definitely agree with the death penalty especially for shop lifting.

Glad you were set free but that you did get to serve your time. It's been a while since I've sat and figure it's only a matter of time. I have a production pal who served and had to be out of work for two weeks (yea, me, b/c the co. asked me to do some editing). In the end it was one of those crazy cases that never should have gone to court, it was neighbors suing each other, but it made for funny fodder for his blog.

One of the guys on my day job was on jury for five weeks. Another on a high profile murder trial for 4 months.

In 2004 I was called for jury duty. Got called for a case. I had a problem with the case. Had no problem telling the judge or the attorney's. And the guy was in the room. Took them 3 days before they let me go home.

If interested google, Daniel Rakowitz. Now the guy was a cannibal and had already been locked up in psych ward and was looking to go free. So you've been warned if you continue to read up on him.

Fun times that jury duty thing. Wow. I actually kept a long story short!!!
