After all this time building the booth and getting wired up, I finally had a test call with Sunspots, and....CRACKLE CRASH CRUNCH Not good. So I re-soldered that Neutrik inside the booth, tried again with them, and Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm Not good. I have just spent the last 2 hrs in audio neurosurgery trying to get those teeny jacks wired back up from scratch (if only I had a 3rd hand) and am hopeful that it's wired in properly now. Can anyone with ISDN take a sec for a quick test? Much appreciated, and TIA.

Thanks all who have responded - it appears I may have to (AGAIN) take apart the Neutriks and possibly even replace one, or check the other end of that particular cable, Kara E reported some sort of electrical noise down the line, that nearly went away when I started reeling in the extra 50' or so of mic cable I was using to test. Pretty darn sure all cables I used are balanced (hot, cold, ground - to the TR&S or 1-2-3 XLR respectively). As these are combo jacks, I hope that that's not just a name, that they really do double duty since I could sure use the I/O functionality (headphone returns from different eqpt for my VO and music recordings) I do plan on building a shorter cable to go from the in-booth mic to the jack box.
So that's the skinny for now, may take tomorrow and try it again, I'm burned out on it for tonight - but I have an audition with StudioCenter on Tuesday and I've been working on it with Sunspots, so I really want this to fly. Thanks again so much, I may indeed be calling on youse at some point ("youse" - Noo Yawk for the plural "you", we just ate at Brooklyn Pizza in Wilmington - real pie from real expats, just like me!) _________________ Chris Mezzolesta, Voice Talent
