|
|
I have a few quick questions to run by people before I submit the results of the mock audition in a few hours from now.
First, any opinions about the value of making the audition anonymous (i.e., deleting the talent slates and just ID by number)? I have a feeling that would allow for more honest constructive criticism. Also, folks opinions would not be unduly influenced by knowing they are hearing someone with a "big name" (or on the other hand, a relatively unknown name). AND it would save listening time – I have 33 submissions and the entire file is about 17 minutes long!
Second, the way I plan to present the MP3 file is to upload the file to my ftp service, OnlineFileFolder.com, and post a link on vo-bb.com that allows folks to download the file. I don’t have the knowledge or ability right now to stream such a file. Any problems with that approach, or does anybody have a better idea of how to listen to all of the auditions?
This has actually been a pretty complicated undertaking (so far I'm very glad to have done it, though), and managing the discussion to make it as useful as possible will be quite a challenge. I appreciate your thoughts! _________________ Best regards,

If you cut out the slates then how will we know who to vote for? Besides, so many of us already know each other by the sounds of our voices...that said, it doesn't matter to me!
Thanks for putting so much effort into this, Tom. _________________ 006 member of the Sisterhood of the Traveling Mic. Bonded by sound.

Mandy, you will vote for them by the ID number before each audition, e.g., "I thought #38, 42, and 55 were the strongest auditions, and here's is why I think so....." _________________ Best regards,

I think that anonymous is a good idea. We can vote for ID number.
I don't mind downloads.
thanks for doing this! _________________ Charter Member: Threadjackers Local 420 |

I like that idea! And as long as no one tells me I have entered an invalid number then all the better! _________________ 006 member of the Sisterhood of the Traveling Mic. Bonded by sound.

Do check the numbers carefully though as recently our options have changed. _________________ Wicked huge.....in India.

Since this will be somewhat limited to just VO-BB people, I think removing the auditioners’ names isn’t necessary. Most of us know each other’s work by now. I would limit the slating to one slate at the end. Plus, we’re not voting on this like a popularity contest, right? We’re just critiquing the ones that interest us and giving an opinion on who might most likely get the job, not our personal “faves”?
Instead of forcing us to download every one of these (and you don’t need to stream these), can you just put these up on a web page in mp3 format on your own site, or on a VO-BB page with the files hosted somewhere? That way we can play them from the page as we wish. If you don’t know how to host and display them on a VO-BB page I’ll be glad to show you (apologies if you already do). That way it can just be displayed as:
Bruce Miles 1) Sennheiser 416 shotgun mic, Mackie preamp, Motu 828 MkII, Audio Desk software 2) AKG C2000b mic, rest the same
And the viewer can just click on my name and an mp3 screen will pop up and play.
Let me know if I can help,

Thank you for all of your comments! I also sent out a bunch of PMs to folks who participated, and they mostly agreed that anonymity was a good idea - the pros outweighed the cons.
Since I have gone ahead and posted the results, this thread is now obsolete. If you want to express your opinion about how to improve the process, I'm definitely open to suggestions. Perhaps it's best if you PM me or better yet send me an e-mail to tom.test(NPSPAM)@yahoo.com and remove the (NOSPAM) part. _________________ Best regards,
