oh, that was funny. I remember being an altar boy growing up and holding the bucket while the priest sprayed the crowd. I did think it looked a lot like a mic.

musical comedian victor borge used to do that as a little comic throwaway during his concerts, gently flicking his microphone toward the audience in "blessing". he never explained it...but it always got a laugh.
