'Seem to be having no luck finding the archived threads here in our lovely little community re: sites that help with pronouncing tongue-twisting foreign names and place-names.

Anybody?

Thanx in advance, y'all!

Slightly shifting topic:

We've been having a bad stretch lately with indigenous pronunciations.

We call several sources when we question a word, from the community's Chamber of Commerce, to a local school, to the police department, and even the end client themselves.

Darned if our client doesn't consistently come back to us with instructions for a re-read with a different pronunciation! I'll tell him who we spoke with, but to no avail. They'll usually go with the way someone at the shoot says the word, "so the on camera pronunciation matches the v/o".

Wow, Greg....thanks!

I'm about to get a 9,000-word presentation for an awards ceremony at ICSC (International Council of Shopping Centers)...Turkey, Arabia, Germany, Korea, Japan, you name it... usually the ICSC cooperates with pronouncers, but this year made it clear we were on our own.

....and they've already waffled 'cause I sound too "AMERICAN".... go figure!

Wow, Dave. All I can say is congrats and good luck!
I've used Forvo, but it is not that complete for location names, by a long shot. Proper names can be a BEAR. And I've done work for Saudi- wow, those Arabic names - many you need to roll your tongue for correctly speaking them. Interesting challenge..but I'm certain you're up to the task.
