Wow.
The new Star Trek movie looks like the awesomest thing that ever awesomed its way across awesomeville.
My heart goes a-flutter every time I see one of the previews, but the latest one is by far the best!
I'm not sure I can wait until May 8th.
I don't go to the movies often. Maybe once a year. Doesn't help that my husband has an abhoration of public
theaters. He turns into Howard Hughes after 15 minutes in those cramped little chairs that inevitably squeak,
and have at least three mysterious sticky places. But for this... He's thinking about letting me accompany him.
I do believe I will. |

BTW - It's "Trekkers", not "Trekkies". The latter is entirely offensive to those of that persuasion. _________________ Jeff

In my opinion, it's only the dorkiest fan-boys who insist on being called Trekkers, like that's going to somehow make them cool. Most of my Trek-fan friends and I don't care if you call us Trekkies.
And I am looking forward to the movie, as well. They showed the trailer in one of the early commercial breaks in last night's Battlestar Galactica finale. I'd seen it before but never in 50" high definition. _________________ Lee Gordon, O.A.V.

I've been a Trekkie since the first season of the first show. this whole "trekkers vs. trekkies" things reminds me of a largely pointless argument in college about whether trekkers or trekkies were the true fans, and one geek of my acquaintance insisting that any true fan was a trekhite. I told him sounded like a the name of a mineral to me. He flounced off in high dudgeon.
Doesn't matter what you call us, we love things Trek, although that first episode of TNG had some squirming moments... _________________ Charter Member: Threadjackers Local 420 |

I saw the new trailer at the IMAX theater on Thursday. I will be seeing it on the IMAX screen when it comes out.

Kafer, it's a generational thing I think.
As someone who watched Star Trek every week between 1966-69, on my belly on the floor of the den...in front of the humongous console TV - I am a Trekkie.
Trekker for me is someone who's discovered the adventures of NCC-1701 long after she's been in dry dock...the retro youngins. My opinion is doesn't matter which you call yourself, we share a common interest.
Live long and prosper my fellow geeks. _________________ Moe Egan

I think the whole Camp Cooper contingent will be in the BIG THEATER for this one. _________________ DBCooperVO.com

I take it you guys don't have modern movie theaters around there? All the newer ones here have wide seats, arms that fold up so you can snuggle with your honey, big cup holders for the arms you're not raising, and they seem to be mopping the floors on a regular basis. It's not as comfy as home, but when ya gotta pay ten bucks to see it on a BIG screen, today's theaters are certainly OK.
And if you want to see a popular movie without a jillion kids around, see if you can catch an early weekday matinee.
I'm not Roger Ebert, but I've played him on TV,

Whatever I am, I've been a Trek Geek since the first show aired in the late 60's. Same goes for my wife and 16-year-old son. We can hardly wait for the release. _________________ www.voiceoverdrew.com

We haven't been to the theater since moving to Florida last July.
Hard to do anything outside the house when you have four kids, and
half of them are babies.
That's a good idea on the time for movie-watching. It may help my hunny if
there aren't 200 people sharing his space. He says, "It's not so much the
discomfort of the chairs, as it is the thousands of dirty lice-ridden people
who have sat there before me."
I try to convince him to wear plastic clothes and tissue boxes over his
shoes, but he won't. lol, I really think he'll go for Star Trek though!
He's almost as much a Trekkie as I am. (And yes, I am a Trekkie. I have
seen Trekkers. Frankly, they scare me a little.)
I don't think he likes Patrick Stewart the same way I do though. |

I'm looking forward to the new movie too.
I'm not ashamed to admit that I once was a member of a Trek club when I lived in Florida.
Granted, there were a couple oddballs in the bunch, but what group doesn't have those?
Otherwise, they were just normal, everyday, average people who really, really, really loved Star Trek. And they did a lot of fun activities helping with charities and such, and I enjoyed their companionship very much.
It was only when they would begin debating over the properties and function of a warp drive that I would have to dismiss myself and go anywhere else.
We also had a meeting raided once by the local Klingon chapter, one of the most hysterical things I have ever witnessed in my life. There's nothing like a guy in a Klingon costume giving a wedgie to a guy in an Enterprise officer outfit to really make your day.
Oh, btw, you guys might want to catch the new ep of Family Guy this weekend -- the whole Star Trek: TNG cast is appearing:
http://voiceactors.wordpress.com/2009/03/25/family-guy-reunites-star-trek-tng-cast/
I also have a musical comedy bit I perform at conventions that I call "The Trek Pack" with me crooning Sinatra songs while imitating Captains Picard, Kirk, and Janeway. I need to record a video of a future performance so I can share it with my fellow Trekkeries. _________________ Publisher: Voice Actors in the News

Might be worth the trip to the IMAX in Saco if it plays there. _________________ Greg Littlefield

Heh... Klingons giving wedgies. Who'd a thunk it of them?
I suppose it could have been worse... could have been a visit from the Ferengi Alliance, looking for oomox. _________________ Charter Member: Threadjackers Local 420 |
