ok - this JUST started - as far as i know i have not changed ANYTHING. at random times when clicking on the "record" button i immediately get a SUPER loud peak - that sounds like a "click" - i thought at first my mic was picking up the physical "clicking" of the mouse - but that's not it. it is something electronic (electric?) - i don't know, but it's quite off-putting. any ideas? it doesn't happen every time - but MOST of the time.

it looks like this:

Todd,

I got that ALL THE TIME with 3.0.

Frank F claims it's a computer resource issue, and that you should set your parameters to put your record buffer into something else besides the HD you're using for everything else.

I seem to remember that helped, but it's weird that it just started happening to you out of nowhere. You might ask him for a little more clarity on that.

I could never get 3.0 to behave with XP....but it works fabulously with Vista.

I think this might be related to the order in which drivers are loaded into Windows and their "priority" in accessing hardware resources.

I noticed this happened to me, too, in AA 2.0 under XP when I had to uninstall / reinstall my EMU drivers.

And then one day it went away.

I could be wrong, but it's probably not related to which disk is set as the scratch disk. It's more likely and IRQ initiation / release issue with your selected audio hardware.

Have you tried (just out of curiosity) changing the Audio setup to use the computer's onboard sound, recording something, and then switching back to whatever your "usual" audio hardware is?

(you probably did, but I figured I'd mention it anyway)

The problem is a combination of things, most popular is the disk issue. Audition likes to have a separate drive to write to and read from. The synopsis is: "pagination" is the culprit, not resources; as previously indicated.

Why? I don't have a clue. An outboard drive is popular or a second (not a partition) drive should have a separate "Temp" folder as the Primary space. The Secondary space can be on a partition of the main "program" drive.

No anti-virus software should be used when using AA as well. I addition, Skype and AA 3.0 have some issues. Often when communicating on Skype and attempting to open AA 2.0/3.0, you will lose incoming audio. The latest version of Skype (4.0.xxxxxxx) has made some "bug fixes", but there are others obstacles within AA 2.0 and 3.0 which cannot/are not/have not been resolved.

Just to set the record straight. Oh, and Todd's issue has been dealt with forth-with.

Toodles
