Yesterday morning I met with my boss at the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association to give him my notice. I will be leaving the employ of the Association on the First of May 2009.
Will it be a long walk off a short pier? I certainly don't believe it will or I wouldn't be doing this now. 2007 was the first year that I passed my salary with my voiceover earnings. In 2008 I did that before the 3rd quarter was finished. And I've had a very good start to this year, with more outstanding billing on the books as April begins that at any time in the previous 26 years. (I did a session early today that paid more for 33 minutes of work that I make in 2 months at the B.G.E.A.) So, I do think it's time.
But, it's scary, too. I'm the sole source of income for our family. Cinda is busy homeschooling our 2 youngest boys. And Eric is working for me. Karen is out on her own, but still works part-time for me, too. The pressure is on. Now is the time to stand and deliver; so that's what I'm going to do.
There's no doubt in my mind that several turning points in the last few years have contributed to my decision. Each has been important in its own way, but one of the most important was discovering this wonderful VO-BB family and starting to hang out with you. I've gained so many valuable insights, strengthened my spine, sharpened my marketing and planning skills; and most importantly made many, many friends.
The only bad part about this decision is that I'll likely be traveling far less since I won't have all of the business trips for the Association any more, taking me across the globe and all over North America. I have so very much enjoyed each in-person encounter I've had with those of you I've been able to meet. Thank you for your many kindnesses to me. As I am able, I will continue to travel. It just won't be as often.
And I'll still be here reading, posting (ahem) now and then. Jacking threads and laughing out loud. But now, it won't be a distraction to my cubicle mates; just to my family. _________________ Be well,

May the blessings you deserve continue.
I KNOW you will do well my friend, this just means we (your VO-BB family) get to travel to see you and your family.
Toodles

Congratulations, Bob. I'm confident this decision will work out well for you. (That's a safe bet as it seems to already have done so ) And it's nice to hear of someone making the decision him or herself, rather than having it made for them, as has happened with several people I know. I'm just glad we New Englanders had a chance to get together with you before your junkets came to a screeching halt. |
