Seriously, I don't think I've ever actually uttered the word "hitherto". _________________ Jeff

Just as it looks -- hither (rhymes with wither) and 2.
I use it all the time! _________________ Diane

I love the talking dictionary sites. I frequently consult them. |

So, in other words, you had hitherto never used the word "hitherto." _________________ Lee Gordon, O.A.V.

Yes -- the talking dictionaries simplified life quite a bit. When I first started teaching, I had to teach my English students to decipher the arcane diacritics and phonetic symbology of the dictionary. It was a happy day for all of us when the talking dictionaries arrived on the scene -- second only to the death of the archaic card catalog in the library. _________________ Diane

OH MY GOD. Have you seen the pronunciation symbols they're using on Wikipedia these days? Their pronunciations are totally un-understandable. Do we really need a new system that uses Greek and Calculus symbols? They're nuts.
