Seldom do I have a really bad day. I sometimes have days I don't like, days I'd prefer to forget and days during which certain events prove inconvenient.

11am today as I walked along the beach to get to the Post Office I heard a familiar sound. Looking west into the clear blue sky I saw the distinct yellow markings of an RAF search and rescue Sea King helicopter. It was climbing slowly and heading east along the Moray coast towards Aberdeenshire.

This morning instead of my usual cursory glance I stood and stared silently. My perspective was different from other days and my heart was heavy.

This morning I knew exactly where the Sea King was going and the task that lay ahead of its crew.

Yes, it is sad. We just had our own version not too long ago. A number of the bodies were found still strapped into their seats. There was one survivor though. Toronto Star
