Hi, after more years than I care to admit, an updated commercial mix that
i'm considering to replace an a quite dated version... If the link/download
thing doesn't work, my apologies - i'm trying out a free ftp site for this.

Any feedback much appreciated!

Mike,

Good demo. Nice variety of reads. Market that puppy and put some money in the bank. (And if you read the sticky at the top of this forum, you'll notice that it's not considered polite to complain about a lack of response.)

One of the reasons it's not nice to complain about a slow response is that the few of us who do bother to take the 10 to 30 minutes it takes to give a reasoned critque are busy voice talent working at making a living. We often don't have the time to give free advice, or even click onto this section of the board. That said....

There is a school of thought in our business that says all of the selections in your demo should sound the same. I don't subscribe to that school so I wasn't overly enthused when I heard all of your cuts sound pretty much the same except the last one. However, your voice is somewhat unique and that will appeal to producers who don't want the same old voices they hear elsewhere.

I think you have too many cuts in there so they're all real short. Producers like myself often like to hear the "arc of idea" come across in some of your reads. Like three sentences instead of just one or two.

On the technical end, most of your reads sound like they were recorded on the same day in front of the same mic and the same distance from the mic, which is often too close. This adds to the "similarity" problem in my mind. I also think your demo is too hot or loud, and the very first cut is way over modulated in its original form. There's the splatter or crunchy sound of a mic being taken beyond its limits....not good for the first cut of a demo.

You are good. Your demo on the other hand could use some revision.

Hi Bruce, again, no complaint intended - just some absent minded self-deprecating humor. Having been in this 25-something yrs. I know better: ) In any event, good points and questions to ponder and I DO appreciate your thoughts
