I know they encode custom auditions at 96kHz, but my custom auditions are really sounding awful, warbly and compressed. And yes, I'm submitting them in mono 128 44.1. Anyone else hearing this problem? _________________ Jeff

Jeff,
I think I remember that Amy Snively had this problem a while back. You might check with her to see how she solved the problem. _________________ Be well,

Just a simple thought based upon some background of re-encoding .mp3's; my suggestion is to send them as 96k from your original 44,100 kHz, 16 bit mono file.
Remember, MPEG II, Layer III is a lossy format, so like in the old days of tape, the more you bounce it from tape-to-tape (or original digital to .mp3 to re-encoded .mp3) the more quality you lose with each copy.
However, this is just a thought.
Toodles

I've had this happen a few times, and it's always corrected itself when I re-upload the files. _________________ Chris Rice - Noisemaker

I corrected this issue by letting my subscription expire. YMMV. _________________ We have nothing to fear but fear itself.

Yeah, there's no distortion or jitter on any of the auditions that I don't send to Vee Eins Zwei Drei.
F2's 96k solution ought to work.
Hey, try sending 192 mono files _________________ Skype: globalvoiceover

I'll try the 96 kbps trick. When there are auditions worth spending time on. May be a while. _________________ Jeff

Burn a copy of that file, and then maybe the client can rip it and convert it to 128k.

fwiw, I clicked on your link and it sounds fine to me.
You keep mentioning 96 kHz, which there's no need for in v-o work... just to clarify, are you recording at 96kHz (sampling rate) or rendering the file at 96 kbps (bit rate)... if it's the former I'm pretty sure that can cause problems when being resampled to 44.1. _________________ Chris Rice - Noisemaker

96 kbps, my mistake.
Unless there's something wrong with my playback, there's no way that file sounds fine. Anyone else give it a listen? _________________ Jeff

jeff - sounds ok here to ... i had the playback problem with, albeit a much lower bit rate, my audio PC sound card simply did not support the lower quality file. took a long time ... and liz's help to figure it out. played it back on my laptop, and it sounded fine. _________________ "i know philip banks": todd ellis
