My software is on the fritz, at least I think it's the software. This is the free but very good software that comes with MOTU brand equipment and after 4 years plus on my Power Mac (non Intel) it's telling me I don't have enough RAM. Well it worked fine for 3 years with 512K of RAM and for over a year with the 2 Gig of RAM I added. Did a quick test with Rember software and so far no obvious RAM problems.
I'll record for a few sentences then it will stop recording and then start after 2 or 3 seconds and then on for 10 seconds off for 4, on for 30 seconds off for 3, etc. etc.
Oh joy. Lots of time on the phone with tech support at MOTU. Ugh.

Don't shoot me if I'm stating the obvious, but have you tried quitting other programs and seeing if that makes a difference? Or quitting it and reopening it?
Some software (previous versions of Safari included) have nasty "memory leaks" that eat up your RAM while you're not looking, and don't regurgitate it until you exit. _________________ MIKE COOPER VOICEOVER |

one of the first things they'll ask is if everything is updated. If you updated your OS to 10.4.11 or something like that then you should have the latest version of Audio Desk.
Updates are really important once you jump from 10.4 to 10.5.
I've had problems with my version of Digital Performer when I made the jump from 10.3 to 10.4. It required me to update the software from DP4 to DP5 or something like that. _________________ Company, villainous company, hath been the spoil of me...

Monk's right. Do all the updates necessary. But I gotta tell ya, I jumped from 512mb to 2GB Ram a while ago and it made all the difference in the world. I had similar problems at the time. I also own a Power Mac G5. I finally got rid of ProTools and bought the $80 Twisted Wave software, and I totally love it. I can't do any multi track editing, but I rarely need to. When I to, I have Cool Edit Pro 2.0 on a Toshiba laptop. I'm still waiting for Adobe Soundbooth that will work with my Mac G5. |
