Some weeks you wake up thinking all is right with the world. Then the week progresses and the truth begins to unfold -- all might be right, but it's Murphy's world and with it comes Murphy's Law. This week, I was in a real pinch and some relatively inexpensive tools saved my ass.
M-Audio Microtrack II You can't edit what you're recording so it's like recording to tape. When you're done, copy the files to your PC and send. OR edit then send. Or for some of you, edit, molest with compression and other effects, then send. It's got 1/4" inputs with Phantom Power so you can use any mic with it. You can also run your line level outputs from your preamp into this as well. Less than $200.
Phone patch. After traveling all 17 levels of hell, I ended up at the 18th, Best Buy. Luckily, they had something - the Jensen - Universal Telephone Headset with Boom Mic. "Phone patch sounds great!" "Really? hmm...." I'm not use to working with a mic boom so that was a little awkward, but they told me it sounded like any other phone patch. Maybe other people are doing the same thing, who knows, it worked and they were patched into the session. The bonus was a zero hassle setup - put on head, adjust boom, go to town. Less than $25.
At any rate, I realized this no overhead setup is probably one of the best Save My Ass In A Pinch kits I could have ever stumbled on and since I'm using the 416, it's extremely compact.
This may not be for all but hopefully this helps someone. _________________ Genus |

Ain't that the truth! I avoid that place more than my MIL. |

Avoid BB! Most of the computers they sell are Frankensteins with serious weak links. For big box Frys and others will sell computers that are actually good. _________________ Skype: globalvoiceover

Kevin, I'm glad to know about that telephone headset. I bought a Plantronics phone with a wireless headset for this purpose, for well over $200. It is certainly less than satisfactory - one time during a coaching session it just hung itself up. And the sound quality is not good. After a while the headset simply stopped working - fortunately it was still under warranty so I got a new one - or maybe unfortunately, since I'm still using the darn thing. Might give it to the household and let the household get me something that works better. |

I am also glad to know about this little headset! I looked at boom mics earlier and got one that ended up being not as long as I had hoped.
It's hard to communicate with the mic stuck to your cheek.
This one looks like a winner _________________ DBCooperVO.com
