If you are really bored...you can count the number of times I say the word 'wow' in this video Smile I was working yesterday when my husband called to say he really thought the weather would hold for the launch (which had been scrubbed 5 times) and that we should take the 2 1/2 hour drive over to see it...we made it with 20 minutes to spare!

Seeing the space shuttle Endeavour launch from a mere 10 miles away was one of the coolest experiences ever! At about 1:20 in is when the sound hits us. The frequency was so low- the camera couldn't really pick it up, but you can hear the distortion from our voices. We stood next to a lovely Italian family- and the kids were adorable during the launch!

If you've never seen a launch in person, and there are only 7 left for this fleet, you need to do it! We were pretty far away, and it was still an awesome experience!

Fun clip, Kara! I caught the launch on CNN (always running on a TV near the front client kitchen). Haven't watched one in a while, and have yet to see a live launch. Sounds like you had fun! Smile

That is so awesome, isn't it? I need to see one go up in person before they retire the fleet. Seven more launches to go.

I was at at landing. STS-4. July 4th, 1982. This was the final test mission for Columbia. After the landing the 747 with the newly built Challenger took off to get the engines installed. Of course neither of these ships still exist now. *sigh*

One last big WOW !

How cool Bob! It really feels like watching a piece of history. Really special. Many years ago when I was working for Radio Disney, we were invited to broadcast live for the re-opening of Tomorrowland. They had dozens of NASA astronauts at the opening, and we were given 30 minutes to interview as many of them as possible. While I didn't get to interview him, I did get to meet Buzz Aldrin along with many other well-known astronauts. It was SUCH a memorable experience! In my next life, I want to be an astronaut Smile

Oh, and I had no idea how often I said 'wow' during the launch until we watched the video back. Too funny!

I visited the Kennedy Space Center in February and got to see the shuttle on the launch pad. We got there a couple of days too late to see it being transported from the Vehicle Assembly Building, and left Florida a few days too soon to see the launch in person. Had to settle for viewing it on NASA.com and the Science Channel.

Great video and one of the last times you'll get to see the shuttle launch. Thanks for sharing.

When you met Buzz you should've asked him if the moon landing was faked. Ninja

Kara, I am so absolutely freaking jealous of you right now.

I need to move to FL so I can catch one of the last shuttle launches.
