Aloha Gang!

Just wanted to say hi. I anticipate asking lots of questions and eventually be able to help some folks, but I figured it was time to get off my okole ( oh coal lee) (butt) and introduce myself.


I'm Chuck. I have lived on Maui for 33 years except for a brief two years in Seattle. I had wanted to be in broadcasting since I was 13 ( I'm now 54) and did so locally working at KMVI AM 55, KVIB, KHEI and KNUI. I spent two years at KLSY in Seattle and taught at National Broadcasting School in Seattle.

So while I am not exactly inexperienced, it has been quite awhile since the ole pipes have had a work out.

I had given up regretfully, and kept lamenting that I had a voice, but never did anything with it. Well, the internet has changed many things and what the heck. It is time to give it a try.

I made the mistake of getting a Behringer podcast studio, thinking that I could test the waters with it. Needless to say I was dissapointed.

Since then I think I have decided on a RODE NT1a and an Alesis iO|2 usb interface and possibly a Micport Pro.

I have Audacity and Reaper as my software, and a Dell Dimension 9200 with an intel core 2 1.86 ghz and 4 gig of ram and a Sigma Tel audio card. I have added firewire to the mix.

So, any help would be most appreciative, what books might help, what equipment I might need. My goals would be narrations and VO. I don't have any voices really but my own, ( although I can do a decent Bullwinkle).

The only avenues I am aware of are Voice123 and Voices.com

Aloha, Chuck. Yes, search the boards and be prepared to spend a few hours doing so! Lots of great info and you'll learn all about not getting Todd wet.

Maybe, it depends on what I find out about you being all wet or something, ( insert gregarious just kidding laugh here) I'm everybody's friend, as long as they pay me enough.

For the record- I'm pretty sure I am the first to use and abuse Chuck- I've already e-mailed asking for pronunciations for a list of Hawaiian words for a script I have Smile That's right...welcome- and now what can you do for me?
