I have a 414 B ULS that I sent to the AKG tech just to check it out, etc. since it was purchased second-hand on ebay.
We've discussed putting the a 414 TL II capsule in it---supposedly it is a better and somewhat brighter capsule---would be around $450 to do it.
Since I have a Gefell M930 I'm just wondering if with the new capsule the 414 would still offer a contrasting flavor. |

Rob
If you want a great cap and also save some money I highly recommend Peluso Mic lab http://www.pelusomicrophonelab.com/
I had a 414 re-caped with his capsule. John has probably gotten as close to the C12 Cap as any one has. Perlman buys for John as do other notable manufactures.
I have visited with John and know he is serious about providing product for VO work. In his early years he worked as a recording engineer in the CHI area recording VO artist.
The C12 Cap was the cap at the heart the AKG C12 (early run) and Telefunken Elma 251 and the AKG 414 EB (early run).
Can make any comparison with what you have now, never heard them side by side _________________ Esse quam videri "To be rather than to seem"

Thanks for your input, Ed.
I decided not to modify it.
It is a little on the flat side, but I've had to remind myself that the reason I bought it was to have a contrast to my Gefell M930, which is quite bright. |
