Is an audition really necessary for a commercial in which your character speaks the lines:
"Hi, Carl."
"Oops."
Just askin'.
I wonder how many scores of ladies were asked to submit an audition for this. _________________ DBCooperVO.com

I've done some similar auditions recently. I usually provide 5 or 6 completely different styles of delivery and/or voices. A nice resuse check arrived for one of the spots recently, so for the time it takes to crank out 6 reads on two short lines, I'll usually do it. _________________ Playing for a living...

The kicker is when they change the copy to:
"Hi Fred."
"Oops."
... and do a new set of auditions. _________________ Lee Gordon, O.A.V.

Lee made me laugh... so true.
I'm with Connie... I do several reads and turn it in. I don't know if it's necessary, but I do auditions like this. _________________ Caryn Clark... The Hip Chick Voice!

I recently went on an audition for one line.
Went in gave it three different reads. Casting director gave me an adjustment. Did that.
Got a call back.
Came back.. Now more people on the other side of the glass; director of commercial, etc..
Gave them three different reads of the same line. Gave me direction. Did it again. We laughed.
I didn't get it but the recording session was the next day. I wondered why they wouldn't just take one of the lines from the person who booked it.
Was it worth it? Yep. Casting director called me that evening to tell me they loved me but went with a deeper voice. Today, casting director called me in for an audition on a union job for Tuesday.

A necessary evil, I guess. What we must do to get rich quick as voiceover artistes. _________________ Bobbin Beam
