A few weeks back I got a job doing the VO for a coupon company called Swoopup.com. They met my price, paid the downpayment, and then, as we struggled to come up with a great time to have a patch session, this guy decides he wants to work with me badly enough that he gets up at an ungodly hour to call in. I didn't suggest it, it was his recommendation. The call took 8 minutes. The video came out smashing, if I do say so myself. I was very impressed with the production.
Fast forward a week and I get a late night email from someone who found me online and wants to use me for their promo video, too. The session happened the next day and they were hoping to have their big launch in 3 days. 4 days later I get an email asking if I know any video peeps because their people fell through. I gave them names and then, out of curiosity, contacted the swoopup guy and he kindly shared his guy. I forwarded the info and today I got to see the finished product.
In all of this me me me there is some wonderful commentary about people working together. The amount of gratitude from the first client, then their willingness to share, and the gratitude from client two and then the sharing they have done to their colleagues looking for VOAs, not to mention that everyone paid up (and the name change folks even threw in some memberships for me to use as gifts as part of my buy out fee). It's all made for a happy, happy Mandy.
I feel like, after 12 years, I can finally, really, for sure and truly call myself a professional voiceover artist. And don't get me wrong, it's not because of these two videos because I do a lot more work than that, it's because I can see the results. Finally. Thanks for letting me talk. _________________ 006 member of the Sisterhood of the Traveling Mic. Bonded by sound.

Nice teamwork story, Mandy. Solving a client's problem helps relieve their pain, and that goes a long way toward customer loyalty. _________________ Bobbin Beam

Great work, great story. I already knew what a generous person Mandy is. I should mention that Mandy recommended me for an audition for a character role and I got the part. The production company was willing to let me record from my home studio since their office is on the fourth floor of a building with no elevator. |

What a great thing to wake up to this morning. Thank you, all, for your kind words.
Philip, I absolutely enjoying this journey. More so now that I've discovered there are more people on the same journey.
And Chris, I've had the same fortune around here. Both David Swinehart and FF have given me leads that have worked out beautifully.
OK, enough of my feeling all glow-y and whatnot. I think I'm going to close up shop for a few hours and go enjoy some time at the beach with the kids. _________________ 006 member of the Sisterhood of the Traveling Mic. Bonded by sound.
