Is there any way for a client to upload files without me having an FTP site? My bad Chinese resulted in me thinking I had an actual FTP site, but I only have FTP access to manage the site. (Although I do have a public_FTP folder which I don't understand).

I would rather not have to ask clients to use sendit etc.

My whole ISP deal confuses me as a lot of what Cpanel offers is not included in my deal.

Very interesting timing for this thread. I was just about to start a thread mentioning a very simple (and free) way to upload files for clients. I used to create a folder for them at my hosting site, then upload files for them and send them a link, which has always worked fine. But a friend of mine mentioned another option called dropbox. I just did a search here and it came up blank, so I figured it was safe to mention it here.

Anyway, one of its main features is the ability to sync files among several of your own computers, but it also enable you to effectively do what I was doing with ftp, only using their servers. I'm still learning all that it can do, but it is incredibly easy to use, seems to be very safe, is compatible with Mac, Windows and Linux, and did I mention it's free? Well, the basic version which gives you 2GB of file space is free. There are other plans that cost money if you need more space.

Thanks, I just installed it, and it looks very good. A bit like the memeo share interface, but more space.

The ability to create shared folders with individual passwords is ideal. The only problem I can foresee is clients not wanting to install software to send files.

And extra thanks for the link. Got the 250 mb's extra.

They don't have to have the a. For basic purposes it's not unlike YouSendIt and others of that ilk. You just upload, then email them the link. What I find convenient is that at least on my Mac, the Dropbox folder just appears on my desktop and I just drag the file into the folder. The file uploads in the background and when I see the little green checkbox that says it's done, I right click to grab the url for the client.

I haven't fully explored it yet, but I believe that you can "share" a folder on your hard drive if you like. If, for example, you have a regular client that you are constantly sending files to, you keep the shared folder on your desktop and they can access it as if it were on theirs. For that usage, then yes they would need the a.

I've been using the "YouSendIt" site for quite some time now. Never had any issues with my clients using this.
