Just this week, I started noticing a buzz while recording. It's driving me crazy. I *think* I've figured out that it is either my headphones (Sony 7506s) or my ART MyMonitor headphone amp.
I tried swapping our mic cables - that wasn't it. I tried different mics - still there. But when I disconnected the headphone amp and went without cans, it went away. So I tried an experiment: I hit "record" with the headphones plugged into the ART MyMonitor, waited a few seconds, unplugged the headphones for a few seconds, then plugged it back into a different jack on the ART. Result: buzz...then NO buzz...then more buzz.
(Here's where I would put an MP3 player of some sort to play that sample, if I was savvy enough to know how to do it, which I'm not. I can e-mail a file upon request).
...ah-hah! I just connected everything to my Soundcraft mixer - including headphones - and the buzz went away! So that tells me it's not the Sony 7506s. It must be the ART Headphone monitor. (Right?) Sorry for my stream-of-consciousness post, I hope I'm making sense.
Does anyone else use this unit? Any other suggestions for a good headphone amp? Should I skip the headphone amp and just run my Speck 5.0 through my mixer so I can use it's headphone jack? (I was always concerned that would add noise, but maybe not any more than using the ART MYMonitor).
