Some of you may have heard of this but I wanted to post this idea here, since you all are a great group of vos and might be interested!!!
Sharon Feingold, a fellow vo in NYC, started an organization called Stars at Bedtime. You can go to www.starsatbedtime.org to learn more, but in short, it's "an initiative and association that brings professional voice actors to the bedsides of hospitalized children to read bedtime stories. Founded by voice actors, and open to other professional members of the theater, film, and tv world, volunteers use their acting skills to make the words of a page come alive by using their natural talents for storytelling. The goal of "Stars at Bedtime" is to help ease the trauma of the hospital environment for pediatric patients by providing a fun, interactive storytime experience."
Right now, there are two chapters --- NYC and Southwest Florida!!! YAY! I just got the approval from my local children's hospital to start a chapter here. They're very excited about the program. We'll be reading to groups of children in either the pediatric oncology or pediatric surgery unit, depending upon the need/availability at the time. The plan is to come twice a month, at 7 pm, but my guess is that if I get plenty of volunteers, we'll gather more frequently. I'm asking not only vos, but local actors and tv/radio folks to volunteer.
Just thought you all might like to check this out, and start a chapter in your area!!! It's easy, doesn't take a lot of time, and is a great way to give back. _________________ Caryn Clark... The Hip Chick Voice!

Way to go, Caryn. I love it! Be sure to bring your hard heart and some tissues, though, because those can be very difficult places to venture into. This is something I'm certainly going to look into as we have a wonderful hospital system out here. _________________ 006 member of the Sisterhood of the Traveling Mic. Bonded by sound.
