I am going to purchase a MBP in the next couple of days. This will be my main computer for Protools/Adobe Audition and recording in general. I noticed that it only has a firewire 800 connection. Will this be an issue when connecting to a fire wire peripheral that is fire wire 400? I was considering one of the new Onyx mixers http://www.mackie.com/products/onyxiseries/ with the firewire interface. If anyone has had any experience with them, I would love some input.

Does anyone have experience with the glossy versus non glossy screens on the MBP? I am going to be using it a good bit so I thought the non glossy screen might be the way to go.

Thanks,
Zach

Don't they still come with a Firewire 400 port also? The ports are different (different connectors). Both of my MB Pros have both 400 and 800.

the new MBP's only have the 800 connection if I remember correctly. You will need to buy an adapter for your old 400 which should be less than $5. I just googled 400/800 adapter to find mine. You can go from a 400 to an 800 port but can't do the reverse.

i prefer matte in photos so would assume, for myself, i'd rather have non-glossy screen

The mac is not compatible with AA. You can load it on a Windows partition and use it that way.

As a word of caution: by installing and running windows application, you now inherently opened your Mac to the world of Window viruses and all the goodies that come with it.

Go with Logic it's more powerful and sounds better anyway -my 2¢.

If you use Windows prudently for one particular job, you are not nearly as vulnerable. Macbooks run Windows 7 beautifully. FW800 is backward compatible with 400.

I echo George's comments. My audio production Mac-running-Windows isn't connected to the outside world.
