Hi!
I need to record a greeting message on a PBX system, but the engineer of the company is telling us that I have to be on site for the recording.
For the on-hold message, the sound will be on a separate CD, but the greeting needs to be recorded directly into the PBX.
Now, do any of you know if there is an alternative?
I have recorded thousands of IVR messages and I've always given a wav file to the engineer to sort out.
It's the first time I hear that I'd have to be on site to speak into the machine.
So, I'm hoping one of you guys would have a solution
Thanks! _________________ www.clairedodin.com |

sounds a little goofy to me. my guess is the engineer simply doesn't know how to make the magic happen with file download and wants you to pick up a phone in the office & record that way. as opposed to going to the office, you might suggest that you phone in from your studio and record from there. (from a land line) there will be virtually no difference in quality - you're still going through the phone.
if you know the brand & model of the ksu i might be able to help with download instructions. _________________ "i know philip banks": todd ellis

Ask the owner for the access codes and you can probably upload it directly from your computer like ftp. It depends on the PBX system but I've done that before. If the eng has issues, have him contact the manufacturer directly for tech support. They are usually pretty helpful. |

Claire,
I have a couple of clients that do this, too. I just record and save as I normally would then using their call in method (call the #, press -usually- 3* and go from there for the various mailboxes and whatnot. You can back out of each by pressing 9 a couple of times and then go to the next box.). Then I simply play each prompt via the phone patch. It's a PITA the first time you do it and seems so archaic but it works. Call me if you need to. _________________ 006 member of the Sisterhood of the Traveling Mic. Bonded by sound.

Thanks!
I haven't got a phone patch, but do you know if I could play the file on the computer and make it work through skype?
I couldn't find a way to do it, but maybe I just missed it in the skype settings. _________________ www.clairedodin.com |

I've not used skype for that but believe it's possible. I had a client tell me a couple of days ago he'd rather I used skype so he could hear me more clearly then on the phone patch. Since he only hired me the one time we'll have to wait and see about that. I hesitate to make changes to my set up! how about posting in the CHAT section about the skype question? _________________ 006 member of the Sisterhood of the Traveling Mic. Bonded by sound.

I've had to record directly into the "machine" before, but it was many many moons ago. Had to go through several layers of security - felt like the opening of Get Smart - to finally arrive at a huge equipment room where the telephone systme resided. _________________ Playing for a living...

Yes, this is entirely possible. Refresh my memory, Claire, PC or Mac?
You can route playback of audio to Skype in some cases without a 3rd party a . _________________ If it sounds good, it is good.

what if I plugged in the mic port pro (without a mic attached to it), opened adobe audition and chose mic port pro as sound card, then opened skype and chose mic port pro as sound card and played the file into audition?
I think I will try that. _________________ www.clairedodin.com |

Don't think that will work. Patch out of your mixer Aux send into PC Audio Line input, then tell Skype to take audio from PC audio. _________________ If it sounds good, it is good.

yeah, it didn't work.
I was trying to avoid going through the pc mic input because it is just not good, I've got a bad sound card.
Ah well, I'll try, it may not be worse than a phone line. _________________ www.clairedodin.com |

Or, just allow the sound from your audio interface to feed back into itself by unmuting that channel on the mixer, that could work without needing the on-board sound workaround. _________________ If it sounds good, it is good.

Yes, it works by simply feeding the headphones out line into the mic line of the pc.
I will try the other solution to see if the sound is better.
