HOW THE HELL DO I DO IT?

Judas Priest! I have an old white Hotpoint range that I need to clean and fix.

I cannot for the life of me figure out how to lift the cooktop.
I've taken out some screws that appeared to be holding things together from the inside, but I can't find anything else at all that could be holding onto it. I don't see any catches or recesses for a catch.

Don't all cooktops lift up?

My mom had an O'Keefe & Merrit (sp?) that I had to fix the oven door on -- replaced springs, etc. And, I believe the stoves of that era actually had clips that were used to hold the top down. But, I might be wrong.

Try wedging a screw driver in between the cooktop and where it's seated and see if you can lift it. But, be very careful. It's been a very long time ago.

Katrina-- that link is great except that the aparent model number of this beast doesn't show up in the database.
Geez-- I knew the stove was old, but I didn't think it was ancient. It looks like it's from 1980-something.

I have a fix-it pal in Texas who asked me to send him a picture of the stove.

When I moved in with my husband, he had a range that was at least 50 years old and probably 100.... it was cast iron and weighed a ton. It didn't even have any way to get inside it to clean it. Bought a new one, purchase of which included free removal of the old one - much to the chagrin of the removal man! (Who said it was probably 80 years old...)

is a hotpoint an oven?

I've heard of a price point, but never a hotpoint and (although I'd like to say it is), it isn't because I'm too young to have heard this word before.

Mind you, my Mum said "spatchcock" one day and that just cracked me up no end. lol ... it took me back to the first time I heard her say "i ballsed it up"! hahaha

Indeed, there was Hotpoint.

One may remember their advertising mascot, Happy Hotpoint, a pixie-like character portrayed by none other than Mary Tyler Moore.
