...I know, probably elementary for you computer savoids....but how do you do it?

Not just here, but in Outlook Express.

I'm trying to send a YouTube link to a potential client and feel that renaming it would make for a smoother-appearing presentation....

BTW I did check "For The Record" here and couldn't really understand the explanation of how to do it (no offense Deeb) so I did do my due diligence, just so you know....

Hey!

Don't know about Outlook, but here it's:

[url=http://www.the URL you want to point to.com]The name to want to appear[/url]

I have bolded the brackets, but just so you can see what to do

Hope this helps!

BTW: I always hit "Preview" before I actually post to make sure I did it right! Wink

Thanks Liz.

Doesn't seem to work in Outlook Express but I am assuming that it works here at the VO-BB....

Well the link is an actual "physical" address at some point (a file on a server on the web) so renaming it would make it not work, unless you just mean you want to "make regular text hot"

If you want to make a link smaller / cleaner, you can use a service like tinyurl.com or is.gd

If you want to make normal text hot and link it to a web address in Outlook Express, select the text that you'd like to use to link to your address (in the message you're sending), then in the Insert menu, select Hyperlink... and paste in your URL there.

Rob,

That's because the code Liz posted is BB Code which works on bulletin boards like VO-BB. Lou's description just above my post has the straight soap for creating an HTML link in your email.

When I click> insert the Hyperlink, I just get this blank window that I can't do anything with, and I have to close the window to get my toolbar to open up again....I wonder if you have to have Word to do this (which I don't)

Here is the Microsoft explanation for creating hyperlinks in Outlook Express. Look at #5.

Thanks Dan. Tried it. When I right click on the highlighted work, "Hyperlink" isn't a choice in the drop down menu...

Ron, thanks also. Followed all the suggested steps in your link, unfortunately to no avail.. ARRRGGGHHH! Ninja

I'm about to add Microsoft Office, I wonder if that might help?

Three steps to create a Hyper Link in Outlook Express.

Step 1: Type your message and highlight the word you want to use for the hyperlink.

Step 2: Click on the Hyper Link icon in the tool bar of your message. Enter the URL for the site you want.

Step 3: Click OK on the box where you entered the URL and the Hyper Link will be set.

I hope this helps.

Keep in mind that how a link appears in Outlook Express is a function of the recipient's settings, not the sender's. If the person on the reciving end doesn't have HTML enabled, the link will show up as plain text and will not function.

I've tried everything suggested and then some, and what continues to happen is....

when I click on either "Insert Hyperlink" or click on the Hyperlink icon,

I get a blank window that I can do nothing with and that freezes up the entire page....

in my web mail, which is downloaded into Outlook Express, I can apparently create links, so I may just have to use that until this mystery is resolved.
