I've just discovered a site through 'Double Dutch', Paul Strikwerda's wonderful VO blog. Does anyone have feedback?

Here's the site:
http://www.internetvoicecoach.com/index.cfm?affID=nether1
And here's Paul's blog, lots of good stuff here:
http://www.nethervoice.com/nethervoice/2010/04/27/open-letter-voiceseekers/?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=Feed:+nethervoice/kmaX+(Double+Dutch)

Happy summer. It's finally sunny here in Oregon.

I've been following Paul's excellent blog for many months, now, and encourage everyone to do so.

The link to that site had escaped me, though, Anybody check out the place?

I like that they focus on play. I find it's easy to lose that aspect of our work.

True, but it's still a pay to (focus on) play site for the most part. Looks like they do have some free materials, though. Curious...

Me too. It's on my list to investigate.
It's a long list.

I've had the pleasure of working with voice talent/coach Mary Windishar here in the San Francisco area in a one on one setting, and she's not only a solid teacher but super talent. I just found out she's offering her capabilities through this new service.

I found Paul's thesis on "10 ways to spot an amateur", interesting to say the least.. one in particular

"A professional is flexible and appreciates and incorporates feedback fast without fussing."

I don't know what circles Paul travels in, but I know scores of so called "professionals' who are spoiled brats and bristle at the mere mention of direction and critique.

I think Paul ought to back off a bit.....if this blog is intended as a tutorial for talent seekers as a "how-to" evaluate potential talent, then state it as such....everyone has to start somewhere and even the ultra professional had to "suck out loud" at some point in their career...

I also am amused by those that come up with "professional standards" lists, and find that while yes, there are standards in the industry, there is a great degree of subjectivity, and thus, the finger could end up being turned back at the list maker.

sorry to hijack the thread but for some reason this blog kind of rubbed me the wrong way......

I can't imagine a working VO objecting to being directed, or they wouldn't be working. Are these 'professionals' folks who have made it big in acting and therefore assume they can be brats when coming to a VO session?

I just found a tape of a demo of me from 1986. Hoover's got nothing on me.

Maybe the line should be revised:

"A professional is flexible and appreciates and incorporates feedback fast without fussing if they want to get called back for more work...those who act like an ass will spend more time in the pasture than others."

I try very hard not to speak ill of other talent, but I've certainly had many a director/producer who had no problem bending my ear about uncooperative and inflexible talents (many just after they left the room). So long as one doesn't care about the consequences I guess one can be any way they want to be with those who write the checks.

Interesting site. It definitely warrants further investigation.
