Gasp I have a new student here at the Defense Information School who has me stumped! The guy has ZERO intonation/pitch and might have a cleft palate. We're not doctors...so we can't "diagnosis" that.

Do any of you have some drills to help? Right now, I'm focused on using Pace and Pause to add emphasis to the words.

He may need to see a speech therapist before he gets training on your end. They have ways to make you (him) talk!

Can he sing at all?

One of the warm-ups I had my students do was to sing "Old MacDonald" or "Bingo".

Also, just saying oooooooooo AAAAAAHHHHHH on a vocal portamento from low to high and back down can get someone's voice in action.

Chris,
The American Speech-Language and Hearing Association http://www.asha.org/
is a good resource.
Bruce is right, a licensed speech pathologist is the way to go.

He can't sing AT ALL! We worked on songs for 15-minutes yesterday. I wonder if he is tone-deaf?
