His generous spirit will be missed. With every one of Mike's posts, I was a beneficiary of his knowledge, for that I am forever grateful. _________________ jonahcummings |

omg - this is awful news. It's rare to run across someone as knowledgeable and as generous with his knowledge as Mike.
He will truly be missed. |

Got a message from Mike a couple of weeks ago regarding an exchange he was having with a fellow poster on LinkedIn. I wandered into the topic and gave him a wink about his "America's Favorite VO Curmudgeon" online persona. He sent me a very nice PM later that said in part:
"I'll let you in on a secret, the curmudgeon / asshole thing is an act, it's a character. Just like Simon Cowell. But I support that act with real facts and knowledge.
In the real world, I'm just a down to earth nice guy with a twisted sense of humor, with a wide and varied background. And I try to give more than I take."
Amen to that, especially the last sentence. Thanks for sharing, Mike. We'll miss you. _________________ Billy James

I am among the many who never met Mike, but who has felt supported by his generosity and knowledge. Other than lurking on this and other forums and learning from his expertise, my first real contact with him was when I was in the middle of recording a job, against deadline, and my sound went wonky. I made an emergency phone call to him, in hopes he could talk me through the fix. He called me back right away and got me going again. I was a virtual stranger to him, but a fellow VO-er...that was enough for him. I believe him when he says his 'tude was an act. He was a nice guy who said what he felt. He will be missed...and I'm looking forward to hearing the improved thunder. _________________ "Wherever you are -- if you are following your bliss, you are enjoying that refreshment, that life within you, all the time." I never met Mike, nor had the honor of receiving the benefit of his generous knowledge and wisdom...but after reading these heartfelt posts I somehow feel that I know him. I'm deeply saddened for his family, and this community as well. _________________ Scott Burns

Incredibly sad news. I never met him in 3-D either, but he helped me get my sonic act together in ways he probably never knew about. _________________ Dangerous.

Not much I can add to what others have said, except... whoa.

So hard to believe. My recordings are so much better thanks to Mike. A man that gave freely of his time to me personally not only on this board and in emails but also in many phone conversations. We talked everything from computers and acoustics to whiskey and cars. What a guy and I can't believe he's gone. I was so looking forward to meeting him in person one day.
You'll be missed Mike. _________________ Hart Voice Overs Blog

Like some of the others here, I have never met Mike or talked to him, but ALWAYS read his posts. I can't recall ever reading a post where he wasn't sharing knowledge or helping someone. I am going to miss reading Mike, and my prayers go out to his family and friends. RIP Mike _________________ TG2

I was absolutely blown away when I read the news of Mike's passing. I always admired his generosity, and even though we had a somewhat spirited disagreement at one point on Facebook, I was genuinely looking forward to meeting him some day. Sad that our meeting will have to be postponed for quite a while.
Rest in peace, Mike. _________________ Justin S. Barrett

I'll be here to echo Mike's thoughts on acoustics (no pun intended), as I sponged up as much as I could like so many of you! Really, I know a lot more about voiceover studio acoustics thanks to Mike's generous and prolific sharing on the forum. I can't say I'll be here everyday, but I hope to continue on answer questions best I can. And if I am wrong, hope there's another "Mike" to correct me and make sure we're all getting accurate information. _________________ If it sounds good, it is good.
