Holy jumping guitars, there's another Guadalcanal Diary fan out there? I wore out a cassette of Flip-Flop back in the day. You, sir, have great taste. _________________ Great Voice. Great Choice. For Voice Talking and stuff.

Apparently, there are three GD fans on this board alone. I had the pleasure of interviewing Murray Attaway in college and got to see them live a few times (including once at Aquafest in Austin way back when...) They did have a reunion about 10 years ago and put out a live CD, but they're kinda in limbo now. Would be great to see them again!

here's another of my all time favorites. Probably one of the greatest guitarists of all time. Mark Knopfler with Dire Straits....
Sultans of Swing
Goose bumps on this one. _________________ TG2

OK, while we're traipsing through the 80's, how about this one:
Bette Davis Eyes
And at about 1:20 in you'll find out what happened to Michael Jackson's other glove!

Ben, that's one of the great instrumentals of the decade of course but you can't forget about Jan Hammer
EDIT:
No idea why I originally called him Ian. _________________ Hart Voice Overs Blog

Brian....you are correct sir. Jan (pronounced Yan) Hammer is a master. I celebrate his entire collection
This has to be one of the top "driving cross country" songs from a CD which delivers many others. I have the sound track and highly recommend it for road trips.

TGG,
Now that's funny!
et al: I love Dire Straits, Sultans of Swing, but for my money there are several thousand songs, including:
Always and Forever, Heatwave
Stairway to Heavan, Led Zepplin
Ride Captain Ride - Blues Image
Child In Time, Deep Purple
Chuck E's in Live, Ricki Lee Jones
Taxi, Harry Chapin
I've Got the Music in Me, Kiki Dee
Nights in White Satin, The Moody Blues
Your Song, Elton John
Fire and Rain, James Taylor
Lovin' You, Minnie Ripperton ***
and of the more esoteric variety - Somewhere Over the Rainbow, Eva Cassidy******
and so many, many, many more
Toodles,

Wow, Somehow I'd forgotten about that one. You know, I just can't bring myself to go see the movie. I'm afraid it would ruin my memory of the show.
Can't find it on youtube but if we're talking Dire Straits one of my favorites is "Your Latest Trick" from the Brothers in Arms album. Some of Knopfler's solo stuff has been pretty good too. _________________ Hart Voice Overs Blog

Tom Jones only brings one thought to mind:
Carlton
It's not unusual this makes me laugh whenever I see it. |
