Lance, I have dreamed about that CMIT-5U too.
But until a family member wins the lottery, it will have to remain a dream [sigh] and since we do not play the lottery I don't expect to win it.
They cost 2K in euros new and I never see anyone selling an old one! _________________ www.scottsvoiceover.com - An American voice in Finland

That's exactly what happened to me. For years, one particular studio had me using a U87 and then one time, they put me on a 416 and as soon as I heard the finished spot, I knew I had to have one. _________________ Lee Gordon, O.A.V.

I've heard shootouts with a 416, and I can instantly "spot" it. It's used for a lot of commercial/movie work, right? That's probably why. My entire life I've paid close attention to people's voices on tv, radio, and movies.
That sense of "familiarity" is attractive to people listening. The same with an RE-20. People have been hearing the flavor/color of that microphone on the radio for decades, many their entire lives.
My theory? When folks hear people using an RE-20 or 416, they subconsciously like it because it is what they are used to.
Are there better mics for certain people? Absolutely!
I think my rule with gear is going to be:
If it pays, it stays...

If you want to hear the difference between the Microtech-Gefell UMT70S and the Sennheiser MKH416P48 in context (and in the same piece), you can CLICK HERE to visit my website and watch the CNN 70's promo for TruTV. The UMT70S is at the beginning, the 416 begins at "It's a blast from the past...."
Thanks and gratitude to Bill Ballenberg for the last minute use of his studio, saved my bacon. _________________ Genus |

Sounds like the Gefell has a bit more of a low end to it? The 416 still has plenty, but it it seems like I could hear more low frequency detail on the Gefell? _________________ "The wise ones fashioned speech with their thought, sifting it as grain is sifted through a sieve." - Buddha

Just when I thought my GAS was under control, George had to find some cool stuff at NAMM.

Those AKG k182's tick all the boxes for my back up headphone requirements (and i like the design much more than the k240's.)
Really excited about the new MA-50 from Mojave. Same capsule as their 200 series, and only $450 street?! They're gunning for Neumann, and they sound pretty confident with the result. Eager to see some more reviews in the future.
