Hello colleagues!

Infesting question was discussed in the Russian voiceover group on facebook:

Artificial intelligence what the compensation should be if your voice is chosen?

Someone brought up language pack of 60 hours of finished audio for 6000 euro

And people were debating there. some saying the compensation is great, some (me included) that it is a drop in the sea.

What do you think the pay for such a project should be?

One company, Replica Studios, is working on a yearly licensure.

In our Research folder you will find a link to the GVAA guide to rates. The closest I can find are these: An hour of finished non-broadcast narration goes for $2,000 plus or minus $350. A one year license of your voice for a train station or airport is suggested also at rate of $2,000 plus or minus and with two hours of studio time included in the deal.

Of course if this would be something as big as Siri for iPhone the rate could be a lot higher.

Good luck!

"Philip, in doing this AI job for us we will never need to hire you again for your entire life and it will probably stop you doing other jobs. $29.85 ok?"

I held out for the full $30!

That's me, Mr Big Shot!

A little over 4 years ago, I was asked if I would be interested in a similar job.

Offer: 10500 USD incl usage.

aHobo Toungex 15.000 sentences or about 60 hrs of recording in total. So, it sounds quite similar to yours.

Text To Speech for a Swedish website, perhaps internet newspapers.

To me it sounded a lot like becoming another, "Siri".

So, I contacted the original "Siri", Susan Bennett. She was very kind to discuss the offer I received compared to hers. What they offered me was roughly what they offered her, many years earlier.

BTW, did you know that Susan Bennett was a former backup singer for Roy Orbison and Burt Bacharach ?

Anyway, I felt the offer was a bit low. Especially taking Philips point of view.

I made a counter offer of about 12,500 euros.

Never heard back from them again. Smile

But I was OK with that. It felt strange that someone could take your voice and "say" whatever they wanted to say with it !

One should ask who is using the voice, and for how long.

Don't sell your voice to anyone forever!

Thank you, guys for your feedback!

I, honestly, thought the numbers would be much bigger
compared to the titanic efforts to make that happen.

FinMac, actually, I did not know she is a singer. But I watched her interview where she said that initially she did not even know that it is going to be used by Apple Siri. It came as a surprise to her Smile
