Any idea how to pronounce MicGiollaPhadraig? It is also in the script
as MacGiollaPhadraig. And the producer doesn't know. |

Sorry, Mary. All that made me think of is that old George Bernard Shaw quip about ghoti. Years ago I worked with a female voice talent who spelled her name Shevaun, just because people didn't know how to pronounce it when it was spelled properly. |

I found these The surname FitzPatrick is an anglicization of Mac Giolla Phádraig Alas I cant find the right way to say it. It means Son of Patrick.

Wow Ed - thanks so much! It was all there! That's a grand resource.
Mac Giolla (McGill) Mac Gyll-ah
Pádraig (Patrick) Pwa-dric (I'll pretend the h is in there - or that the script misspelled it)
Thanks also DB - I will tuck that awa' for future reference.
This is indeed the grandest (and onliest) of boards.

Uh... never order a steak rare in Belfast?
(DH did that once -- grossed out everybody at the table. Apparently in N. Ireland they cook their steak REAL good... )
I'm astounded at the collective smarts on this board... I'd never have thought to find that web page!
