|
|
Hi there - might be "producing" a series of radio spots and need to know what format to send the client so that he can then send them out to the stations as needed over the next few years. He said whatever the dominant format was. The last time I was producing radio spots, they were being sent out on reel-to-reel. _________________ Playing for a living...

Connie,
At my radio station we simply use mp3.s. Usually recorded at 44,100 khz in stereo and saved at least 128kbps. _________________ Be well,

Exactly what I was going to say. 44.1 khz and 128kpbs for mono. I like to do 192 kbps if it's a stereo file but that's my preference. Most everything stations ever send me is 128 in stereo. _________________ Hart Voice Overs Blog

Some of the automation software used will convert the audio to a proprietary format, accepting WAV, MP3 and MP2 file formats initially.
A couple of other things, if I might:
- They don't tell you is these systems, when importing audio, set cue marks 10 frames after the audio begins and 10 frames before the audio ends.
- Some of those systems also drop the levels to -10db. This may have changed in the last three years.

mp3 is ok when sending via e-mail but it is compressed audio. If they request .wav files which are usually too big to send via e-mail, you can ftp or "you send it" or 4shared dot com it. _________________ jonahcummings |

I've never had a radio station ask for anything but an MP3 (I do mine 44.1 at 192 kbps) but some producers do want WAV or AIFF and most of those have FTP sites. For those who don't, I use either YouSendIt.com or inbox.com. _________________ Lee Gordon, O.A.V.

.mp3 at 256 kbps here. Several years ago, I was the production manager for a 10 station cluster. It was normal to receive .mp3's no less than 192 kbps. _________________ Chris Ratliff VO's

Like Lee, I've never had them request anything other than mp3 - even when I initially insisted.
My produced spots were alway sent in at: 44.1KHz, 256kbps, stereo.

All audio is sent as a 44.1 WAV file, unless the customer specifically requests something else.
I upload to my server, and I e-mail them a link.
(TV audio is often sent as 48k AIF...) |
