I'd like to float a potential session topic for the upcoming Faffcon, and not that I'd necessarily like to lead the session. It needs to be mentioned early because it would take a bit of prep from those who want to participate.

Maybe we could call it "Conquering Challenging Copy". Do you have a piece of copy that recently challenged you that you'd like to share and see what others can offer for getting a handle on it? Copy with difficult word choices, confusing direction, you can't find an emotional connection, they want "conversational" but they wrote it like it's a grocery price special ad.

Since I'm not sure what our photocopying abilities will be, it would be great if you could bring several copies of your script to share.

See you Faffers soon,

B

That's about 80% of what comes through the P2Ps so accumulating copy should be no challenge.

I love this Bruce, great idea. I have a piece of copy that I just submitted for yesterday (didn't have a clue what to do and just winged it, as I had to get the audition in ASAP). Would love to see/hear other people's responses.

Awesome.

I can't recall if we'll have a projector at F4 or not but it would be cool to put each tough one up on the wall and the class can work through it together.

Another session that may be interesting or maybe it would be silly would be a class on speed copy (legal disclaimers). Get a 20 second disclaimer and maybe do an American Idol judge panel to see who can read it the FASTEST and the CLEAREST without mistakes in one take.

But people might not like that one.

People tend to dislike anything of real use or value so I'd suggest an entire 2 hour session mastering
The Iranian Double Pause,
The Fish Technique,
Interpreting Movie Trailers through the medium of Contemporay Dance, Under over-inflecting inflections,
Radio Imaging for the Under 5s
and finally
Copy Layout - where and when to start and stop reading.

I would definitely be up for running a 'discovering your voice over inner self through contemporary dance session' but feel like its been done before ...

Since we are tripping the light fantastic and looking for the Jung vs Freudian
connotations of our inner VO esoteria......may I suggest a session on ..

'What Is My Motivation?' From the vantage point of a hallocinogenic Pink Floyd Concert Experience (life changing) combined with a pathological sibling rivalry complex and Obsessive Compulsive Disorder. But enough about me.

This would be really interesting - I'm sure every Faffer has dealt with the audition copy woes at least once, if not on a somewhat regular basis.

All those briefs where you think, "you never read this aloud, did you?"
I'd love to see what we can throw around.

If you're going to trump that next time, I'm expecting doves or the very least a rabbit...

With all this, I was hoping that Philip might Skype in and give us a whole evening of magic. Literally and metaphorically! Wink Will miss you.

Come to Vox in May and you can miss me in person. Forewarn me if your aim has improved.
