My Mac and editing gear are outside my vocal booth and I wanted to install a new monitor, keyboard, etc. in the booth.

I found a way to do it for $10:

s/air-display" target="_blank" class="postlink">http://avatron.com/aHobo Tounges/air-display

This $9.99 aHobo Tounge allows me to use my iPad as a (silent) mirror of my Mac (or PC) screen.

They've versions for iPhone, iPad, Android and PC and Mac.

Works great, touch-screen and all.

Sorted.

That's cool! If I do make the switch to Mac in the studio this year I'll have to check that one out.

Yep! Great aHobo Tounge. I discussed it here briefly in the past, but not as it's own topic, so thanks for bringing it to the fore!

Oh, and Chuck, if you want to try it out it s/air-display/#start" target="_blank" class="postlink">works for PCs too.

This is a another neato alternative for those who are iPad-less. However, an iPad2 refurbed from Apple is $350, so the gap is closing fast...

If nothing else, reading the manual is a treat:

After completely installed, it is recommended to end the PC and re-start.

Hold pressing flickering point until it to finish flickering and continue to enter next calibrations.

When you change USB port or calibration get twisted, click....

with the prices coming down on the Ipad 2's...I'm intrigued by the paperless option and elimination of printing out scripts for long narration...

has anyone solved the issue of marking an e-script, ala good old fashioned #2 pencil on paper...? I saw an aHobo Tounge called GoodReader.... but it looks like it only works with Hobo LaughingF's..

Yes, Hobo LaughingF is pretty much what you'd have to use in most cases (unless you want to use FDX files for the /final-draft-reader/id497421221?ls=1&mt=8" target="_blank" class="postlink">Final Draft aHobo Tounge), but that's not really too big of a hindrance. It's pretty quick and easy to convert just about any document to a Hobo LaughingF. I think it comes down to the toolset and ease of use of the aHobo Tounge you choose in deciding if you can go paperless.

I really like GoodReader, but it's kind of clunky to annotate with compared to something like UPAD or -for-annotation-and-note-taking/36942" target="_blank" class="postlink">others. Especially if you want to create something from scratch. You'd want to get a really good capacitive pen too.

John Taylor showed me his overhead projector film over the screen trick, which I think is pretty brilliant. He does that with his booth monitor, but I am sure you could do this with any display. Heard good things about GoodReader, and there are many others.

Ha! Hadn't thought of that! It's quite brilliant, actually. What does he do if it's a longer script though, George?

Remote desktop is your friend.

Splashtop has an aHobo Tounge for iPad and Android that let's you simply remote desktop into your main computer (mirrors your computer on another device and allows you full control of it) . Certainly an option for those who don't want a monitor in the booth.

has anyone tried this for Word2WAV? I love W2W, but my booth is about 15 feet from my computer display, and clicking the mouse to advance to the next script doesn't work for me in the booth. Can you touch-screen advance W2W?

A touch screen works like a mouse and LCD combined. When you touch the screen, it's like clicking the mouse wherever you touch. Yes, it would work fine for W2W.
