VO-BB - 19 YEARS OLD!

I'm seeking opinions from the more experienced narrators of corporate/medical/eLearning material because my question centers on a client of many years.

Last month, I'd been asked to cast a VO, who recorded the script, which was broken into four parts. I submitted the audio in four parts and was then asked to submit the complete audio in a single file, as well.

Now, the client has sent a revised script for a project originally done two years ago, where the material recorded last month appears in four places.

Because this client has been with me for many years, I would've thought (based on our very friendly relationship) that they'd have indicated that the script from last month was going to be part of these new revisions to an old project. The client did notify me a month or more ago that the two-year old project was about to be revised and, usually, they would have said, when sending the script from last month, that it would be part of those revisions. Things as they are, with people working from home (with families) I suppose it's possible they just forgot to mention that.

If, in fact, the audio recorded last month is going to be used as a standalone presentation and as part of the revised project from two years ago, should the talent be compensated as such?

I suppose, all I can do is ask the client whether the audio will be used in two separate ways.

preface: i do this type of work a LOT. both voicing myself, and casting. i have found the pay (as a VA) to be acceptable as it is combined with a nearly uninterrupted stream of work. since you state that you have worked with this client for "many years" - i don't think a direct question would hurt anything at all.

Most narration done for a limited audience is considered a buyout in perpetuity. They can do anything they want to with it so long as it doesn’t get turned into broadcast media.
