Anyone else have a cell phone that sees fit to automatically add the numeral "1" in front of phone numbers prior to sending texts... and, thereby, making the phone number invalid and causing the message to fail?

My new cell phone does that. And the company has no idea how to remedy it.

Are you getting an error that looks something like this:

Quote:

"1XXXYYYZZZZ Error Invalid Number. Please Re-send using a valid 10 digit mobile number or short code." (where XXXYYYZZZZ is the phone number).

If not, let us know what type of phone it is, which network it's on, and any error message you're receiving.

Yes, George, that's exactly the error I receive. I've explained several times to "customer service" that:

1. I am following the instructions perfectly
2. There are no phone numbers in my contacts list that have the extra "1"
3. I've been using phones for 60 years and know when an additional "1" is required, and
4. I have no use for devices that try to do my thinking for me.

I did some digging around and most of the things I'm finding indicate that you see that 1 added to the number in the return response of that nature when the number is either not a mobile number or incorrect.

Does this error happen with every text you send or is it a specific one that is doing it?

Send me a test text for giggles. 425-891-8239 I'm curious if you get the same error when attempting to text me. I'm in Washington State so no international charges should apply.

You may be on to something, here. I've only tried texting this one person so far, but I'm going to check to see if he may have given me a bad number. If that's the case, I sure wish error messages would give the real reason for the problem. Yet, if a phone or a network adds a "1" where it's not needed, that's still a problem.

I'll let you know. Thanks, George!
