Greetings to all. I signed up here about a year and a half ago with the intention of moving forward in this industry. Unfortunately, I was forced into a hard right turn caring for a relative with cancer. The great news is that she is doing fabulous now (probably little to do with my nursing skills and more about learning to like to play Backgammon), which makes everything better. The bad news is that I had to put other aspirations on hold. Now that life is more manageable, I made the effort to turn a spare bedroom into a studio to start working on learning how to do this the right way. I hope you won’t mind me posting a few pics for critique on how to make it better. And I hope you won’t mind questions on how to market myself properly when the time is right.
I was in the business many years ago (1980’s) and I know much has changed. I think trying to get a job in radio and having Program Directors throw my aircheck cassette (remember those?) back at me and saying “you suck” 98 out of 100 times taught me that there’s no instant gratification. I have a lot work to do and it’ll be a tremendous effort that may yield minimal results. Hopefully the Gods have no other plans for me this time!
I’ve listened to several of the demos of folks on here and thought “Geez…you have a long way to go.”
Here’s to the journey!
Cheers...Mike Noskin |

Hi, Mike!
First: Good on ya for helping your relative (Been there, done that, working on my 3rd T-Shirt )
Second, as Todd said, search the archives and ask away.
Go to the "WHERE TO START - I'M NEW TO VO" section,
it's a...well....good place to start.
As long as you bring coffee and chocolate (80%!) we won't bite....much _________________ Liz de Nesnera O.A.V. ~ Livin' The VO Dream!

Welcome Mike! As others have said, archives are gold. Ask away. And make sure the chocolate's no less than 70% dark. _________________ www.melissaeXelberth.com

Hi Mike!
Welcome to the best little corner of the web, and thanks for introducing yourself. Agreement on archives and cake. And yes- crazy how much has changed since the '80s...also crazy how long ago the 80s were (I try not to think about that) _________________ Moe Egan

Thanks for all the kind replies. I wasn't aware of the chocolate and coffee requirement here but I'll stop by Trader Joe's and pick some up. Wouldn't want to run afoul of everyone right off the bat!
There's some amazing talent here, and I look forward to sharing and learning. |

Yeah, and it’s Three Buck Chuck in many parts of the country. Still a bargain if the quality matches your palate’s desires.

Oh, it hasn't been two bucks for a long time...but Two Buck Chuck rolls off the tongue much better than Three Ninety Nine Wine. _________________ Moe Egan

Guys, gals, look...Two Buck Chuck is easy. I'm trying to make enough in this business to afford a bottle of Grey Goose every now and again. So I have to work a little harder. |
