Someone called me to tell me that Joe Cipriano's new studio is in his guest house and looks like the same dimensions as one of the photo studio buildings on my property.
And since I was such a fan of George Whittam, shouldn't I call him to design a similar VO studio for me?

Well, heck yes! Is our own Soundgun the builder to the stars? (Joe--not me.)

Is he correct in this information?

We are dangerously close to completing Joe's studio. The equipment gets wired up this weekend, in fact, and the acoustic paneling will be in by the end of next week. The proof will be in the pudding after I get the acoustics tuned and get Joe's seal of approval Smile
Here's Joe's latest "Ask Joe" video showing the progress on the booth and his "backseat exploits" doing a Source Connect session from a car!

Todd,

I quite agree. After all, on my many travels, I've even shared a meal in southern Illinois with you!

Hey Soundgun,

How about an update on the studio! I can't wait to see the completed project. You are a man of great talent. Where did you get your training for such endeavors?

Way to go, George! Awesome!

(We should arrange a casual LA-area VO-BB meetup sometime. There are enough of us that it would be a real party!)

I was there yesterday until 7 PM installing the acoustic treatment. It is SOO close to finished! The wiring and equipment install by Ross Smith from Fox is getting wrapped this weekend, and Joe should be able to go online by the end of next week. Trust me, when it is finished, the entire world of VO will know Smile

I like the sound of a networking party in LA, Amy! Let me know if you want help putting together a mailing list.

Here's an update on Joe Cip's studio. He worked from his new studio the whole week, so I guess that means it is working! I stopped in to see how he's doing and save for a couple little details that need to be ironed out (like track light fixtures that don't buzzzzzz), the studio sounds great.
The room sounds different than any studio he's had before because I designed it to be somewhat live sounding, rather than completely deadened by floor to ceiling acoustic foam or fabric. I was concerned his clients might take issue with this, but so far they are pleased, and because it is so quiet in there Joe gets to use his beloved U87 again for the first time since selling his last house over a year ago. Stay tuned for a video from Joe at the studio, most likely after the holidays, interviewing yours truly about the project.

I mentioned to him the idea of LED lighting, since it makes less heat, uses WAY less power, and has an incredibly long bulb life. However, I am not 100% sure their transformers will buzz any less than those used with the little MR16 halogens. In fact, they are direct retrofit bulbs for the halogens, so they actually do use the same transformers.
I need to get one of the bulbs and see what happens!
